How Latin America uses artificial intelligence.

The region uses artificial intelligence above its weight on the internet and receives a minimal share of the global investment that builds it.

01 · Use

Fourteen against eleven.

Out of every hundred visits the world makes to artificial intelligence solutions, fourteen come from Latin America.

The region holds 11% of the world's internet users. It uses these tools three points above its size online.

02 · Investment

6.6 against 1.12.

Latin America produces 6.6% of world GDP. It receives 1.12% of global investment in artificial intelligence.

Between its weight in the economy and its share of the investment there is a gap of almost six times.

03 · In days

Four days of a year.

If a year of global investment in artificial intelligence were spread across the calendar, Latin America would get four days. In money, one dollar out of every hundred.

With that investment, the region is among those that use the technology the most.

04 · Concentration

Six countries, 86% of the traffic.

Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Chile account for 86% of the region's artificial intelligence traffic. Computing capacity is even more concentrated: 90% of the region's supercomputing is in Brazil.

The index ranks Chile, Brazil and Uruguay as pioneers, with more than 60 points. Ecuador is listed among the adopters.

05 · Type of use

Mostly generative AI.

78% of the region's use is generative artificial intelligence, against a global average of 74%.

Latin America is also the world's third region in downloads of generative AI apps.

What comes next

Use it more and use it better.

The room to grow is in taking that use to more companies and more sectors, and in keeping what each implementation leaves behind: the team that learned, the data in order and the judgment for the next decision.
